Blitz Gang Revival

After a mid-year long hiatus, the Philippine Dutch Blitz Society (a.ka. Blitz Gang) conducted another session last night, January 21, 2008 at Jez’ place.  Although individually we have played this vonderful goot game with friends and relatives, the gang itself have not been able to play as a group after Joel’s departure to Japan. Thus, last night sort of marks the revival of the Dutch Blitz Monday tradition of the gang. Hopefully we’d be able to get Joel’s replacement and who knows, more regular players in the sessions to come. It’s also the first session for the year 2008.  Scoresheet Round 1:

As you can see, Jez is still the reigning Queen of Blitz, what can I say…

Blitzing the City: Baang Coffee, QC

1. The Table – too lox, too narrow, too black, cards get jumbled up in the action

2. The Ambience – good enough but CR was distracting, cruel to carps

3. The Lighting – a bit dim

4. The Food – meals were great, green tea latte is a must try

5. Closing time – 2nd floor closes early

6. Price – expensive

7. The Service – good enough

8. Parking -  not very good. no attendant

9. Techy Points – wifi: free wifi but you have to pay for charging (Php 50 for 30 mins)

10. Remarks – mugs were unique, chair in the 2nd floor was comf

Blitzing the City: Figaro, Tomas Morato, QC

1. The Table – only 2 Blitzable tables

2. The Ambience -homey, books all around

3. The Lighting – excelente

4. The Food – delisiyoso

5. Closing time – quite early for a coffee place

6. Price – a bit pricey

7. The Service – magnifico!

8. Parking -  ample parking space since corner lot

9. Techy Points – wifi: not yet available

10. Remarks – don’t wear fuschia

Blitzing the City: Seattle’s Best Coffee, Tomas Morato, QC

1. The Table – low coffee table type, blitzable table was right beside the smoking area

2. The Ambience -   lots of people studying, cigarette smell was very prevalent

3. The Lighting – ok

4. The Food – similar to Starbucks, drinks are too sweet, no chai latte available

5. Closing time – 2am

6. Price – pricey

7. The Service – similar to starbucks

8. Parking -  was able to park right away

9. Techy Points – wifi: Globe Wiz

10. Remarks – mosquito infested, cigarette smelling place

Blitzing Baguio City: Starbucks Camp John Hay, Baguio City

1. The Table – circular tables not blitzable at all

2. The Ambience -  Starbucks with pine trees

3. The Lighting – natural window lighting

4. The Food – Starbucks – split Green Tea Frap was still in Venti container

5. Closing time – we had to leave before they could close

6. Price -  starbucks

7. The Service – starbucks

8. Parking -  ample space even for a horse

9. Techy Points – Smart and Globe signals were good (we did not have any other to test)

10. Remarks – must have transporation, the starbucks signage is cute at night (Macoy’s Thoughts)

Blitzing Baguio City: U.P. Baguio Dormitory, Baguio City

1. The Table – matress in lieu of table – this was even better

2. The Ambience – UP dormitory

3. The Lighting – UP

4. The Food – take out Starbucks & some chichiryas from the grocery store

5. Closing time – when you hear the guard knocking at your door, it’s closing time

6. Price – UP pricing – 170 a night!

7. The Service – very friendly

8. Parking -  N/A – UP people don’t have cars

9. Techy Points – leave your gadgets at home, you are on vacation, don’t touch the pail of water with the water heater barefoot

10. Remarks – when the guard knocks, hide the Blitz cards under the matress and blame the noise on the radio

Blitzing Baguio City: Cafe Batirol, Camp John Hay, Baguio City

1. The Table – old wood, irregular shaped slab of a tree trunk with “compartments”

2. The Ambience – garden type, open air. it was a rainy afternoon but we did not get wet

3. The Lighting – natural lighting

4. The Food – the batirol was superb and just right for the chill of Baguio

5. Closing time – early in the morning – enough time for a lot of rounds of Blitz

6. Price – touristy, comfort rooms were at Php 5!

7. The Service – friendly

8. Parking -  ample space even for a horse

9. Techy Points – Smart and Globe signals were good (we did not have any other to test)

10. Remarks – a must try, must go for Blitzing and  hot batirol!

Blitzing the City: Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, Tomas Morato, QC

1. The Table – perfect

2. The Ambience – lots of people studying all around

3. The Lighting – spotlights

4. The Food – moroccan mint tea a.k.a “broken mint” – the best! (myra’s choice)

5. Closing time – 2 am, good enough, we stayed till 1am

6. Price – pricier than Starbucks

7. The Service – self-service, although they did not call out the names that loud

8. Parking -  expensive parking

9. Techy Points – wifi: AA, Bruno’s and E-yellow pages

10. Remarks – fraps melt to easy  but this is my choice (Jez’s thoughts)

Blitzing the City: Cheesecake, etc., Tomas Morato, QC

1. The Table – height was just right and there was more than 1 blitzable table

2. The Ambience – solemn but since there were not that many customers, the waiters were quite nosy

3. The Lighting – ok

4. The Food -cheesecake platter was superb and gave us a taste of the different cheesecake flavors.  The milkshake was too sweet.

5. Closing time – open till 2am

6. Price – quite pricey for dessert

7. The Service – service was lousy

8. Parking -  parking was easy

9. Remarks – macoy’s choice

Blitzing the City: Starbucks, Tomas Morato, QC

1. The Table – too low, elliptical, bad table for Macoy’s back pains, not blitzable at all

2. The Ambience – “Starbucks”

3. The Lighting – “Starbucks”

4. The Food – “Starbucks”

5. Closing time – early in the morning – enough time for a lot of rounds of Blitz

6. Price – “Starbucks”

7. The Service – excellent – since its self- service and its “Starbucks”

8. Parking -  very, very, very tight!
